Mary Margaret Kreit Bowers, age 70, of Taneytown died peacefully at home Saturday, March 3, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Born February 5, 1942 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late George A. & Dorothy Tine Kreit. She was the wife of Jackie Lee Bowers, her husband of 47 years.
Mary was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown. She was a cook at Barrister’s Café in Westminster for 15 years.
She enjoyed cooking, seeing that the local hummingbirds were well fed, and spending time with family & friends.
Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Dawn M. Bowers of Taneytown, Deborah L. Bowers & fiancé, Art Varieur, of Littlestown, Diane M. Garber & husband, Chad, of Taneytown, and Jack L. Bowers & fiancé, Dawn Jeffcoat, of Taneytown; brothers, John Kreit & fiancé, Ro Morningstar of Taneytown, Dennis Kreit and wife Donna, of Plant City, FL, and Joe Kreit & wife, Helen, of Taneytown; grandchildren, Meghan Forney, Connor Bittner, Emily Shelton, Taylor Garber, and Brandy & Dakota Bowers; step-granddaughter, Breanna Jeffcoat; former sister-in-law, Sue Kreit of Taneytown; close family friend, Elaine Cassidy of Taneytown; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by infant son, Jeffery Bowers, and brother, George J. Kreit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 East Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
