Martha Reed Harris

Martha Reed Harris, age 80, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully following a long illness on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the home of her daughter.
Born October 3, 1932 in Christiana, Delaware, she was the middle daughter of the late Reed and Mary Brown. She was predeceased by her husband Donald Edward Harris in 2009.
Mrs. Harris graduated from Pine Forge Academy in 1950, and attended Armstrong Nursing School and received her nursing licensing, a profession that would take her from babies to geriatrics. After 45 years of nursing service, she retired in 1997. Mrs. Harris was active in the DuPont Adventist Elementary School, and a volunteer and supporter of GROW Mission in Westminster, MD.
Surviving her are daughters, Dr. Darcel Harris of Westminster, and Lita D. Harris-Vaughan and husband William T. of Hughesville, MD; step-sons, Ernest Carter, Jr. and wife Cassandra of Waldorf, MD, and Creighton Carter and wife Julie of West Virginia; grandchildren, Mia N. Vaughan, Martha R. Harris, II, Mariah L. Vaughan, Mikael’a D. Vaughan; brother Reed D. Brown and wife Cora of PA; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Elizabeth Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster with Rev. Robert Martinez and Rev. Richard James co-officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday at Washington National Cemetery in Suitland, MD. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
