Mark William Smith, 65, of Taneytown, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at his home. Born September 14, 1956 in Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles and Alberta (Canfield) Smith.
Mark was a truck driver with Roadway Trucking for 28 years. He then worked as a medic with Butler Transport in Hagerstown. He was a member of the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company and served as a medic for several other fire companies throughout Carroll County. Mark was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taneytown, #203 Monocacy Lodge of Taneytown, Boumi Temple and the Western Maryland Shrine Club, the Scottish Rite in Baltimore, the Bee Hive Club, and the Sons of the American Legion, where he served as Maryland State Commander 1998-2000, and National Vice-Commander of the Eastern Region. He was an avid gun collector and proud member of the NRA. He loved to travel abroad.
Surviving are his son Mark Smith II and wife Kathy of Littlestown, PA; brother, Rod Smith and fiancée Kay Hefner of Taneytown; and grandchildren, Bailey and Hunter Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31st and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. A fire company memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
