Mark A. Sanders, 85 of Taneytown died Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Carroll Hospice Dove House, Westminster, after an extended illness.

Born November 3, 1922 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late James C. and Marie E. (McMaster) Sanders. He was the husband of Helen L.(Hobbs) Sanders, his wife of 59 years.

He was a life-long Dairy Farmer and an avid Washington Redskins fan. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Taneytown, where he served as a choir member, usher and council member. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 11631, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau. He also was a member of the Westminster Moose Lodge #1381.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Ray Baker of Burke, Virginia, daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Jack Engel of Taneytown, Maryland. Also surviving are grandchildren Brian Baker and wife Catherine, John Engel, Joshua Baker, Kristen Roach and husband Ryan; great-grandchildren, Christa and Tristan Engel, Samantha and Andrew Baker and Addison Roach, one sister Grace Thomas of Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by daughter Yvonne Sanders in 1955, granddaughter Rachel Baker , August 16, 2007, brothers, William and Leo Sanders and sisters Rita Keepers, and Anna Sanders.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 44 Frederick Street in Taneytown with Rev. Dr. David W. Shaum as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Taneytown.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 on Wednesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 East Baltimore Street, Taneytown, where a Christian wake service will be held at 8 p.m.
