Mark Anthony Gelwicks, age 59, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died on Sunday, May 23, 2010 following a battle with cancer at the Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD.
Born October 17, 1950 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Earle Robert and Donaldine (Hann) Gelwicks. He was loving and devoted husband of 8 years to Melissa A. (Cockerham) Gelwicks.
Mark graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Emmitsburg in 1968, and later attended Hood College in Frederick where he earned his B.A. in 1993 and a Masters in Business in 1995. He worked with Beneficial Finance Co. in Frederick for many years, and currently was a chief deputy with the Register of Wills office in Frederick County. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and Corvette and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son Owen Stein of Emmitsburg; siblings, Mary Anne Bollinger-Baker of Finksburg, John Gelwicks, Joseph Gelwicks, Margaret Ridenour, and Joan Elower all of Emmitsburg, and James Gelwicks of Fairfield, PA. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings, Robert Gelwicks, and Donaldine Singley.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 West Main St., Emmitsburg, MD. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
