She then proceeded to run successful campaigns for several congressmen. She built several marketing research companies. Upon selling the last of them, she joined The Insider.

Marion was a life-long congregant of The Church of Christian Science, Boston, MA. She was a reader-to-the-blind for over 40 years under the auspices of the Delta Gamma ladies fraternity and was past-president of the Atlanta, GA chapter. She also served as vice-president of the MacKay Scottish clan in America for 7 years.

Surviving in addition to her husband are sons, Dennis Hays and wife, Mary Jean, of McDonnah, GA, Beau Hays of Atlanta, GA, and John Hays and wife, Robin, of Arlington, VA; daughter, Marilyn Hays and partner, Maria Brown, of Durham, NC; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
