Marie Elizabeth “Mim” Hess, 87, of Taneytown died peacefully Monday, February 4, 2013 at her home in the Carroll Vista community. Born October 19, 1925 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Loeffler Knapp. She was the wife of the late George J. Hess, Jr. to whom she was married for 61 years.
Marie was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown. She was the bookkeeper for the Shell Station family business for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo and dominos, and spending time with family and friends at her vacation home in Ocean City, MD.
Surviving are daughters, Jane Wright and husband, Thomas, of Heathsville, VA, and Judy Anton and husband, Thomas, of Westminster; sisters, Ann Bass and Annette Wieber, both of Baltimore; grandchildren, Matthew Wright and wife, Katie, of Hanover, PA, Christopher Wright formerly of Manchester, Chuck Anton and wife, Maggie, of Baltimore, and J.P. Anton and wife, Julie, of Westminster; and great-granddaughter, Audrey Wright; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Maurice “Buddy,” John, Lawrence, Philip, August, and Carroll Knapp, and sisters, Margaret Campbell and Agnes Dosch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 8, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD with the Rev. Gerald Knapp serving as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
