Marian "Susie" Wood

Marian G. “Susie” Wood, 74, of Thurmont, Maryland died peacefully Sunday, January 25, 2015 at St. Catherine Nursing Center in Emmitsburg.  Born May 23, 1940 in Gettysburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Wills Hess.

Susie was a devoted mother and grandmother.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg.  She enjoyed reading, watching mystery programs, taking long rides in the car, going to yard sales, and collecting angels.  She loved spending time with family and helped raise grandsons Brett and Adam Wood.  She was a very kind, generous, and friendly person.  She was also known for her great sense of humor.

Surviving are children, Teresa Swanson and husband Rodger of Phoenix, MD, Dale Wood of Thurmont, Candy Andrew and significant other Kenny Andrew of Gettysburg, PA, and Sherry Kendall of Chambersburg, PA; long-time companion and soulmate Elwood Baugher of Keymar; grandchildren, Zach Reaver and wife Priscilla of Columbia, MD, Cameron Swanson of Phoenix, MD, Brett and Adam Wood of Thurmont, Jaime Klingler and husband Joey of Orrtanna, PA, Brandon Weaver and wife Kati of Bonneauville, PA, Jeremy Fissel and wife Renee of Portland, OR, and Justin and Courtney Ulrich of Chambersburg, PA; great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Noah, Brady, Emme, Norah, Jacoby, Alice, and Hunter.  She was predeceased by son-in-law, Glenn Kendall.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015 at St. Anthony Shrine Parish, 16150 St. Anthony Rd, Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Lawrence Donohoo as celebrant.  Interment will be private.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
