Marian Virginia “Nana” DeRosa, age 89, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, as a result of injuries sustained from being struck by an automobile, along with her daughter and son-in-law while leaving Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Emmitsburg on Sunday, August 8th.
Born July 4, 1921 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Anna (Cafiero) Cafiero, Sr. She was predeceased by her 1st husband, Humbert DeRosa and by her 2nd husband, Guy Mauro.
Marian attended Mass at both St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Blue Ridge Summit, PA, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Emmitsburg. She worked as a bookkeeper in her parents electronics business OZ Electronics in New York. She volunteered for the American Red Cross and with the Creedmore Institute.
Surviving are grandchildren, Christine Harmanoglu and husband Ali of Hollywood, Florida, and Richard Mauro and wife Alison of Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandsons, Nick, Max, Luke, Joshua, and Jacob.
She was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Mauro Cillo and John Cillo on August 8, 2010; and by a brother, Michael J. Cafiero, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 West Main Street, Emmitsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, with the Rev. Vincent J. O’Malley, C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery in Emmitsburg.
