Margaret Naomi Mitchell, age 91 of Frederick, formerly of Laurel, MD died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. She was born June 1, 1917 in Taneytown, MD the daughter of the late Albertus Guy and Cora Nelson Riffle. She was the wife of the late Cleveland Buck and Robert S. Mitchell. She was a 1934 graduate of Taneytown High School and the Maryland General Hospital Nursing School. She was a counselor for the D.C. Children’s Center and retired after 32 years. She was a 60 year plus member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #60 in Laurel, MD. She helped start the Gold Star Mothers in 1941 in Laurel, MD. She also was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Ann and Donald, Jr. Mertz of Hampton, VA; sister, Alice Ecker of York, PA; grandchildren, Christopher Armentrout of Texas, Matthew Mertz of Virginia and Tina Buck-Paige of Frederick; great grandchildren, Katie Armentrout and Chase and Byrce Paige; also many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Vernon Buck and brothers, Carroll, Delmar and Wilson Riffle.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 13th 11:00 A.M. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore Street, Taneytown with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD and Monday 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.
