Margaret (Leister) Martin

September 6, 1922 — September 19, 2014

Margaret L. Martin, 92, of Westminster died peacefully Friday, September 19, 2014 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.  Born September 6, 1922 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Hattie Spencer Leister.  She was the wife of the late C. Danner Martin, who died in 1971.

Margaret served as secretary at a variety of offices throughout the years, including the Selective Service Administration, the Dulaney & Davis Law Firm, William Winchester Elementary School, and St. Ben’s Lutheran Church.   She was a member of Westminster Church of the Brethren and the Carroll County Retired Teachers Association.  She was a life-long member of the Carroll Hospital Auxiliary and crocheted 1,938 baby hats for the birthing center.  Margaret was a regular donor to the American Red Cross and had donated 9 gallons of blood over the years.  She was a 50-year honoree of the Selective Service Administration in 1994.  She enjoyed water aerobics, playing Bridge, meeting friends for meals, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by daughters, Dottie Haschert and husband Dave, and Susan Rinehart and husband John, of Westminster; sisters, Arlene “Eeny” Logue and husband Bill of Westminster, and Dorothy “Pun” Leese of NC; grandchildren, Martina Lane and husband Gary of Gettysburg, PA, Nicole Haschert and fiancé Scott Swartz of Westminster, Chuck Haschert and wife Kati of New Windsor, Cassi Koresko and husband Stevie of Hanover, PA, and Rachel Rinehart of Charles Town, WV; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, and Kyle Klepp-Egge, Matthew Lane, Stevie and Mikey Koresko, and Savannah and Kaelyn Heath; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by sisters, Mildred Keefer, Ruth Feeser, and Shirley Bond.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with Pastor Glenn A. McCrickard officiating.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.  The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
