Margaret Louise Hooper, 77, of Waynesboro, PA, died peacefully Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Transitions Assisted Living in Gettysburg, PA. Born May 12, 1937 in Frederick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Sarah Morningstar Mercer. She was the wife of the late Frank Hooper, Jr., who died in 1996.
Margaret worked for many years at the Sewing Factory in Thurmont, MD. She loved animals, especially her birds, Snowball and Susan, and she enjoyed flower gardening. Margaret devoted her life to caring for others, including her daughter Betty, who died at the age of 33 from complications associated with spina bifida. She was also the primary caregiver for her brother Charles after he suffered a stroke.
Margaret is survived by sons, George Hooper and wife Cheryl of Sabillasville, MD, David Hooper and wife Betty of Fairfield, PA, and Richard Hooper and girlfriend Bev of Thurmont, MD; daughter, Pamela Hooper of Waynesboro, PA; sisters, Mary Fogle and husband Larry, and Dorothy Myers and husband John, all of Woodsboro, MD; 6 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, she was predeceased by her brother, Charles Mercer.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 25 at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont with Pastor Jeff Miller officiating. Arrangements are by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
