Margaret Jean Haught, 81, of Emmitsburg, formerly of Mt. Airy, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 24, 2014 from York Hospital in York, PA. Born November 11, 1932 in Weston, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ernestine Jewell Reeder. She was the wife of the late Clarence Haught, to whom she was married for 49 years.
Margaret was a graduate of Glenville State College in West Virginia and the former Western Maryland College in Westminster where she earned degrees in Elementary Education. She taught both 2nd and 3rd grades, spending more than 35 years of her career at Mt. Airy Elementary School. She was a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma. Margaret loved to read and travel. Among her favorite travel destinations were Florida, Cape May, NJ, and the Dakotas. She had a love for education and enjoyed tutoring children throughout her lifetime. She was a vital part of her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s ongoing education. She enjoyed family get-togethers with as many gathering as was possible. Margaret had a fondness for flowers and appreciated each one’s unique beauty and fragrance.
Surviving are 4 children, Charles Haught of Emmitsburg, Linda Haught-Wivell and husband Timothy of Emmitsburg, Phillip Haught of Westminster, and William Haught of Frederick; 7 grandchildren, Melissa Capps and husband Jason of Delaware, Jeffery Haught of South Carolina, Kelly Haught and fiancé Dave Caraffa of Littlestown, PA, Corey Myers and wife Kelsey of Thurmont, Kaylee Lambert and husband Wesley of Walkersville, Braden Myers of Emmitsburg, and Dacosta Wivell of Emmitsburg; 10 great-grandchildren, Brianna, Kacie, Adeline, Ethan, Elijah, Brennan, Grant, Kinsley, Landon, and Ava; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service celebrating Margaret’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 31 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 313 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Colin Phillips and Pastor Irvin Martin Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday.
