Malachy McAlonan, 74, of Finksburg, died Tuesday, September 19th 2023, at home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born November 9, 1948, in Dunloy, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary McAlonan. He was the husband of the late Frances Geraldine McAlonan whom he married December 26, 1970. He lived in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Canada before settling in Carroll County in 1984.

He was a Mechanical Engineer with his Bachelor of Science degree from Queens University (Belfast) and a Master of Science degree from Johns Hopkins (Baltimore). He worked for Teledyne Energy Systems for twenty-three years before moving into consulting. He was a devout Christian with strong faith and was heavily involved with the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry in Westminster. He enjoyed travel and learning about history and language. He loved music, poetry, and British TV mysteries. He could fix anything and was an avid Jeopardy fan.

Surviving are son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Jan McAlonan of Finksburg, son and daughter-in-law Ciaran and Ann-Marie McAlonan of Woodbridge, VA, daughter Pauline McAlonan, and son Mark McAlonan, both of Finksburg; grandchildren Kate and Brigid McAlonan, of Finksburg, and Jacob and Ashley McAlonan, of Woodbridge, VA; siblings Mary Theresa Breen, John Pat McAlonan, Daniel McAlonan, Bridget Totten, Dermot McAlonan, Gerard McAlonan, Ignatius McAlonan, all of County Antrim, Northern Ireland and Eugene McAlonan of Seaford, East Sussex, UK; brothers Arthur McAlonan and Joseph McAlonan preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends between 10AM and 11AM on Saturday, September 23 at the Carrollton Church of God, 1901 Carrollton Road, Finksburg. A funeral service will follow immediately at 11AM with interment thereafter in the church cemetery.
