Mary Ethel Long, 91, of Harney, MD, died peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born May 29, 1921 in Emmitsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Irene Wivell Orndorff. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard G. Long, who passed October, 31, 1983.

Mary was a lifelong homemaker, working alongside her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed family gatherings, sewing, baking, collecting dolls, gardening and bingo. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown, where she was a member of the Sodality. She was also a member of the Harney Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are daughters Loretta Bowers and husband, Larry of Harney, Theresa Meadows, and husband, Eddie of Kernersville, NC; sons, Earl “Sonny” Long and wife, Vonnie of Union Bridge, Charles Long and wife, Diane of Gettysburg, PA; brothers, Sterling Orndorff and wife, Jean; Clarence Orndorff and wife, Louise; Francis Orndorff and wife, Mary Jean, all of Emmitsburg; sisters, Dorothy Joy and husband, Jerry of Emmitsburg; Pauline Orendorff of Littlestown, PA; sisters-in-law Teresa Orndorff and Jane Orndorff, of Emmitsburg; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughter, Judy Long; brothers, Karl and Louis Orndorff; and sister, Margaret Williamson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD, with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Prayers will be offered at 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD 21787, or to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD, 21157.
