Lucretia Drusilla Reaves

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER TONIGHT’S VISITATION HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Lucretia Drusilla Reaves, age 83 of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully at Brookdale Assisted Living Hagerstown. Born August 30, 1941, she was the daughter of late Vernon and Catherine (Hoover) Leather.

Lucretia started teaching in 1964, went on to gain her master’s at Shippensburg University in 1974. She was a science teacher at Smithsburg Junior High School for many years. She also taught at other schools through the years. Later, she worked in research at NIH in Frederick until she retired in 2007. In her younger years she was a longtime member of the 4H club. She raised beef cows on the home farm in Greensburg, MD. She was an accomplished piano and organist, she played for Greensburg Lutheran Church where she met her husband, the late Rev. Ronald Reaves, they married June 17, 1978. Rev Ronald Reaves predeceased Lucretia in October 2024.

She is survived by her brother, Gerald Leather and wife Raymonde of Hagerstown, MD; nieces Martine Sapp and husband David of Frederick, Corinne Leather of Frederick and Valerie Leather-Dzbynski and husband Mark of Williamsport; stepdaughter Pamela (Reaves) Miles and her husband Randy of Williamsport; and stepson, Rev. Dr. Bradford Reaves and his wife Andrea of Greencastle, PA.

Besides her husband she was predeceased by her brother, Leslie Leather.

A time of visitation will be held at Myers Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 West Main Street, Emmitsburg, MD, on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday January 7th from 11 am until the start of the Funeral services at 12 PM at Elias Lutheran Church, 100 West North Ave., Emmitsburg, MD, Pastor Kim Waddle and Pastor Joe Herb will be presiding.
