Louise Stagg Spittel, age 86 of Sykesville Fairhaven Retirement Community, formerly a lifelong resident of Westminster, died on Friday evening, May 9, 2014 at Fairhaven.
Born August 31, 1927 in Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Albert M. and Marie Tilghman Stagg. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, George L. Spittel in 2004.
Louise was retired as a media specialist from the Carroll County Public School System, primarily working at the East End Elementary School for many years. She often was spotted throughout the county in her car with the license plate “MEDIA 1”. She was a member of the Westminster Women’s Club and St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Westminster. For many years she and her husband lived on Willis St. and later moved to Fitzhugh Ave. in Westminster before retiring to Fairhaven. She was well known for her sense of fashion, interior decorating, and elegant candlelight dinner parties.
She was predeceased by her sons, Paul M. and Mark M. Spittell. Surviving are grandsons, Truman and Grayson Spittel, and Justin Houghton-Boring and a daughter-in-law, Monique Houghton Spittel.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 13, 2014 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, with the Rev. Marty Kuchma officiating. Burial will follow in the Westminster Cemetery next to her beloved husband George.
