Louise (Johnson) Ruby

January 26, 1937 — March 27, 2018

Mary Louise Ruby, 81, of Mt. Airy, MD, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  Louise was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished.  Our “Granny” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Aunt Louise, Weezie, or Mom called by many, was an amazing family woman, who could cook like no other.

She was born to the late Charles and Ida Johnson on January 26, 1937. Louise grew up in Clarksburg, MD and attended Gaithersburg High School.  She met and married the love of her life, Harry “Ruben” Ruby, on August 20, 1953.  Louise spent many years working on the dairy farm in Cedar Grove and raising her 5 children at the same time.  Louise and Ruben moved to the Thurmont, MD area in 1974 where she continued farming, and then became kitchen manager at the former Cozy Restaurant.  She spent many busy years working at the Cozy, dedicating herself to her new community, and caring for loving additions to her growing family.  After retiring from Cozy, they continued to farm until the death of her husband, Ruben.

Louise was a past member of the Maryland Virginia Milk Association, past member of Upper Seneca Baptist Church, past member of the Farm Bureau, and an honorary member of the FFA.  Louise’s pride and joy were her family and friends, especially her many grandchildren, and great grandchildren  She loved watching them at fairs while competing, sports events, dance recitals, holidays or just enjoying their visits or phone calls.  Louise was a great cook and baker.  Finding help at the dairy farm was easy. Everyone knew Louise would be serving her delicious homemade lunch or supper when they were finished.  Her door was always open and an extra place setting was never a problem.

Loved ones that will miss Louise until they meet again are her five children, Charles “Randy” Ruby and wife, Caythee, Robin Hertel and husband, Dave, Harry “Jay” Ruby and wife, Karen, all of Rocky Ridge, Bonnie Glotfelty and husband, Gary, of Monrovia, Barbara Buisch and husband, Allan, of Mt. Airy; 12 grandchildren, Charles Ruby, Paul Warthen, Christy Donnelly, Erin Sanders, Jaime Manning, Kelly Glotfelty, Joshua Ruby, Scott Glotfelty, Casey and David Hertel, Noah and Jayden Ruby; two step-grandchildren, Adriene and Tyler Buisch; 20 great-grandchildren, Ashley and Austin Ridenour, Nicholas, C.J., Raina, and Blake Ruby, Emily, Carson and Peyton Manning, Ethan and Isabella Sanders, Kayden, Autumn, and Mckinnly Glotfelty, Jameson, Jonas, and Sophia Ruby and Madison, Emma, and Charlotte Donnelly; two step-great-grandchildren, Samantha Ridenour and Emir Buisch; one sister, Barbara (Keith) Pavey of Concord, NC, brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond (Buddy) and June Kauffman of Frederick, Carrol and Darlene Day and Angus and Janet Jordon, both of Ijamsville; along with several nieces and nephews.  Louise was predeceased by her brother, Wally "Dick" Johnson; sisters-in-law, Winona Ruby Lee and Peggy Ramseur; and granddaughters, Rebecca (Ruby) Ridenour and Jessica Glotfelty.
