Louise Elizabeth Riffle, 103, of Taneytown, died peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Lorien Taneytown. Born March 23, 1913, in Gist, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Luther and Elsie (Easten) Myerly. She was the wife of the late Wilson Albertus Riffle, to whom she was married for 64 years.
Louise was a graduate of Westminster High School, class of 1931, and Towson University, class of 1934. She was a school teacher in Carroll County for many years. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown where she participated in the Quilters’ Club. She was a member of the Hesson-Snider American Legion Post 120 Auxiliary, Carroll County AARP Chapter, and was the last surviving charter member of the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. Louise enjoyed traveling, and visited all fifty of the United States and England. She was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.
Surviving are son, Terry Riffle of Taneytown, and daughter, Linda Winders of Firestone, CO; niece, Diane Dabney; nephew, Charles Abbott; grand-niece, Cherie Smith; great-great-nephew, Connor Smith. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sister, Betty Abbott and husband David and their son David.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, with the Rev. Cristopher Frigm officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
