Lloyd Donald Koontz, Sr., 88, of Keymar died Friday, January 16, 2015 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA. Born July 29, 1926 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Margaret Beard Koontz. He was the husband of the late Betty Jane Forney Koontz, who died in 1999.
Lloyd was a truck driver for M.R. Zent Trucking in Keymar for more than forty years. He attended Elias Lutheran Church while growing up in Emmitsburg. He enjoyed collecting toy trucks and tractors, listening to old country music, taking rides in the car to get a milkshake, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by daughters, Rocklyn Harman and husband Sam of Taneytown, and Dottie Frock and husband Rich of Littlestown, PA; sons, Lloyd Koontz, Jr. and wife Yvonne of Hanover, PA, and Randy Koontz of Keymar; sister, Ethel Riley of New Oxford, PA; brother, Kenneth Koontz and wife Darlene of Emmitsburg; grandsons, Chad Koontz of Hanover, PA, and David Harman and wife Charity of Taneytown; great-grandson, Tyler Harman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Katherine Staley, Mary “Dot” Preston, Ruth “Blondie” Swartz, Anna Topper, and Evelyn Manahan; and brothers, Charles William Koontz and Jack Koontz.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD, with Deacon Charles E. Barnhart officiating. Interment will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
