Lloyd Edward Barkdoll

Lloyd Edward “Bud” Barkdoll, 85, of Taneytown, MD, died April 5, 2025, at BridgingLife Hospice in Westminster. Born July 21, 1939, in Maryland, he was the son of the late Lloyd R. and Leona Redmond Barkdoll. Bud was the devoted husband of Lois Ruth (Cornmesser) Barkdoll.

Bud served in the United States Air Force from 1958-63, serving in Turkey, Philippines, and Thailand. During his service in the Far East, he became proficient in translating Morse code into English for military intelligence. Subsequently, his high-level hearing supported his love of music, and he amassed a large and wide-ranging collection of recordings throughout the years, including; classical, blues, jazz, folk, rock, pop, and R&B.

Following military service, he accepted a position with McCrory’s, a national chain headquartered in York, PA. His talent for management and improving store revenue was soon recognized and he became a Management Specialist, assigned to underperforming stores to turnaround and improve sales.

After retiring, Bud became an accomplished colorist for artists’ coloring books and over the years completed a gallery of pictures using his inventory of more than 350 specialized coloring and shading pens. From time to time, he tutored others about color usage. His focus on color grew from his many years of designing and sewing wall hangings and crafting soft sculptures from complex fabrics. His works could often be found decorating homes of friends and family. Bud loved animals and delighted in helping troubled shelter dogs change into valued family pets. He spent many days happily working in his yard, ultimately obtaining a National Wildlife Habitat Certification.

In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by sister, Joan Saponaro; and niece, Lori Saponaro.

In accordance with his wishes, services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, P.A., Taneytown, MD.
