Leon Paul “Pete” Moyer, age 70, of Taneytown, Maryland, died from cancer diagnosed for seven months, peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born on April 17, 1945 in Norristown, PA, he was the son of the late William H. and Minnie M. (Eicker) Moyer.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, and Junior High school sweetheart, Berthalene “Bert” (Margolis) Moyer.
Pete retired from the Social Security Administration in June of 2006 as a mid-level manager in the Office of Systems after 39 years. He was a 1967 graduate of Ursinus College. He enjoyed coaching his daughters in softball and soccer. He coached girls softball for 10 years, and girls soccer for 13 years with the Freedom Optimist Club, including 3 years with the boys Freedom Eagles. He was the first girls coach for the South Carroll Soccer Club started in 1987, and also was assistant JV girls soccer coach for Liberty High School from 2001-2004 and assistant Varsity girls soccer coach from 2007-2008. He enjoyed time at the beach, golfing, sports, and walking. He enjoyed woodcarving birds under the guidance of Bernice Culver, world class woodcarver. He always enjoyed spending time with family, especially attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. He was a member of St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church in New Windsor, MD.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Paula M. Alisauckas and husband Jeffrey of Westminster, and Jaime M. Jordan and husband David of Mt. Airy, MD; grandchildren, Megan and Ryan Alisauckas, and William, Joshua, and Autumn Jordan; sisters, Margaret J. Pheasant and husband J. Donald of Dallas, PA, and Alice M. Franks of Collegeville, PA; brother, Richard J. Moyer and wife Linda D. of Land O’ Lakes, FL; sister-in-law, Joan B. Moyer of Turnersville, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, William T. Moyer; and brother-in-law, Richard Franks.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church, 701 Green Valley Rd. (Rt. 75), New Windsor with Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating. Inurnment will be private. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.
