Lavinia Virginia Eckenrode, age 89, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown.
Born near Westminster, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Anna (Leister) Mahanna. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice E. Eckenrode in 1974.
Lavinia was an avid seamstress and enjoyed quilting, rug making, and making clothes and dresses for her children. She worked for a time at the Borenstein’s Clothing Factory in Taneytown, and in her younger years attended the Shiloh United Methodist Church near Hampstead. She was a hard worker, homemaker, and farmer’s housewife. She also enjoyed baking and tending to her flower gardens. She was proud of the fact that she was a grandmother with five generations of children and grandchildren.
Surviving are children, Anna Lovejoy of Hagerstown, Sharon Brewbaker, Linda Barnes and husband Robert, Regina Eckenrode all of Taneytown, and Michael Eckenrode and wife Kim of Westminster; also several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by children, William and Robert Mahanna; grand-daughter, Julie Ann Barnes; and brothers, Charles and Vernon Mahanna.
Services and inurnment in Keysville Union Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are by the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.
Memorials may be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
