Laura “Laurie” Virginia Beaver, age 89, of New Oxford, PA, formerly of Westminster, MD, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the Brethren Home in New Oxford, PA. Born December 20, 1925 in Winfield, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Maurice H. and Mildred O. (Porter) Muller. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ralph Edward Beaver.
She was a member of the Westminster Church of the Nazarene. She worked at Pleasant Valley Shoe, as a nurses aid at Rosewood Hospital, and ran her own home daycare. She enjoyed crocheting and crocheted hats for newborns at both Carroll Hospital Center and Hanover Hospital. She enjoyed playing scrabble, reading, and canning vegetables. She was a homemaker and “Mother” in every way.
Surviving are daughters, Freda V. Naill and husband Donald of Westminster, and Jean R. Bitner of Westminster; grandsons, David, James, and Jonathan Naill, and Erik and Sean Bitner; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Grace M. Weidner of Westminster; and brother, Robert E. Muller near Frederick; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Martha Jane Beaver; a son, Ralph Beaver, Jr.; and brothers, Henry, John, and William Muller.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 9 a.m. until the time of a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St, Westminster, MD with Rev. John Street officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Church Cemetery in Westminster.
