Larue Caroline (Wantz) Rodkey

Taneytown

LaRue Caroline Rodkey, 95, of Taneytown, MD, died on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Lorien Healthcare Center in Taneytown.  Born November 30, 1925 in Pleasant Valley, MD, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Elsie (Starner) Wantz.  She was the wife of the late Charles Unger Rodkey, to whom she was married for 56 years.

LaRue retired from Black and Decker in Hampstead, where she worked for 24 years. She enjoyed working with Charles on the family farm and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  During her teenage years, she and her sisters could be heard singing on the radio – WFMD in Frederick.  She also enjoyed playing cards and Bingo in her later years.

Surviving are her daughter, Terri L. Simmons and husband Kevin of Westminster; granddaughters, Ekaterina and Alena Simmons; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her beloved husband Charles, she was predeceased by all of her siblings, sisters, Margaret Koontz, Edna Bauerlein, Fannie VanFossen, May Sheely, Gladys Bauerlein and Elvy Lawson; and brothers, Leroy, Norman and Melvin Wantz.

Services are private.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157.
