Larry Little Sr.

January 18, 1947 — December 1, 2013

William Larry Little, Sr., 66, of Emmitsburg died peacefully Sunday, December 1, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness.  Born January 18, 1947 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late Roy and Marie (Anders) Little.  He was the husband of Shirley A. (Little) Little.  They were married April 16, 1966.

Upon his graduation from St. Joseph High School in 1965, Larry was employed for 37 years at the State Farm Insurance Office in Frederick, MD.  There he held a variety of positions including Supervisor of Personal Lines in Fire Company.  He loved his job and had many friends among his co-workers.  Larry was co-owner of the former One More Tavern in Emmitsburg.  He was a life-long member and past President of Vigilant Hose Company and a life member of the Emmitsburg Ambulance Company.  Larry was a very generous and loving man.  There was nothing that he wouldn’t do for his wife, kids, or his grandkids.  His family was his world.  He loved them all.  He had many special friends and cherished their friendships.  He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hunting with his son, grandsons, and his many hunting buddies.  He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg.   Having been born and raised in Emmitsburg, he was very active in town affairs.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Billy Little and wife Tammy of Fairfield, PA; daughter, Karen Andrew and husband Denny Sr. of Emmitsburg; grandchildren, Megan Claggett and husband Matt of Thurmont, and Patrick and Kyle Little of Fairfield, PA; great-granddaughter, Jordyn Rose Bridgett of Thurmont; brothers, Leon Anders and wife Sandy of Taneytown, Richard Little of Carroll Valley, PA, and David Little and wife Charlene of Emmitsburg; sisters, Mary Jean Orndorff of Emmitsburg, Joyce Grimm of Thurmont, Joan Smith and husband Dave of Emmitsburg, Carolyn Smith and husband Karl of Thurmont, Beth Little-Terry and husband Leonard of Oakland, and Elaine Ebaugh and husband Denny of Emmitsburg; brother-in-law, Monroe Hewitt; sisters-in-law, Elaine Brown and husband Denny of Thurmont, Teresa Meem and husband Ross of Dickerson, Donna Toms and husband Pete of Smithsburg, and Mary Anne Weatherly and husband Bruce of Fairfield, PA; brother-in-law, Gene Little and wife Tammy of Emmitsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters, Gerry Hewitt and Christina Little; mother-and-father-in-law, Frannie and Jo Little; and brothers-in-law, Steve and Jeff Little, and Buzz Orndorff.

The family wants to say a special thank you to Dr. Alan Carroll, Larry’s friends, Tasha, Natasha, and Valerie, from Select Specialty, the members of Vigilant Hose Company for all their assists, his caregivers, Brandi Zepp, Debbie Hurley, and especially Cara McMannis who came whenever we called, was with us night and day, and is now family to us.

Bearers will be Dave Little, Bruce Weatherly, Josh Weatherly, Matt Claggett, Jim Orndorff, and Ken Adelsberger.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant.  Inurnment will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 4 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 230 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.
