Lalia Marjorie (Scott) Riley

Lalia Scott Riley, 98, died on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Fairhaven in Sykesville.   She was formerly a resident of Westminster.

Born February 21, 1920 in Natick, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Arthur P. and Myrtle Annis Scott.  She was the wife of the late Ray D. Riley for 63 years.  They were married on November 9, 1941.

She moved with her family to Westminster in 1932 and was a graduate of Westminster High School, class of 1936 and Western Maryland College, class of 1940.  She was an 86-year member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Westminster. She was also an active member of the former Thursday Woman’s Club of Westminster and was one of its last surviving members.  Her interests included sewing and needlework, entertaining, cooking and traveling.  She had visited all 50 states of the U.S. and several European countries.  Most of all she loved and cared for her family.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert A. and Phyllis B. Scott, David A. and Elizabeth “Betty” B. Scott and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Della Riley Rasmussen.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Janet and Allen Colburn, Adamstown, Maryland, Arthur and Vickie Riley, Marjorie and Fredric Lohnes and Donna R. Riley, all of Westminster; six grandchildren, Keith Colburn and wife Lisa, Ellicott City, Amy Cook and husband Theodore, Severn, Aileen Riley, Kimberly Denis and husband David, Kevin Riley and wife Susan, all of Westminster, and Eric Lohnes, Keysville; and eight great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sarah, Benjamin and Rachel Cook, Connor and Peyton Denis, Emma Riley and Ethan Colburn.  She is also survived by two nephews, Jeffrey Scott of Westminster and Charles Scott of Valley Ford, Washington and two nieces Julia Irick of Louisville, Kentucky and Susan Rackley of Overland Park, Kansas as well as Dr. Benedicte Holstein Andersen of Fuglebjerg, Denmark who was a high school exchange student in her home in 1966 -67.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, February 25 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster and one hour prior to the memorial service on Monday.  A graveside service will be held at the Westminster Cemetery on Monday, February 26 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a service of thanksgiving for her life at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Bond and West Green Streets at 11:30 a.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the organ fund at St. Paul’s UCC, 17 Bond Street, Westminster or to Shriners Hospitals for Children c/o Boumi Temple Shrine, 5050 King Avenue, Baltimore, MD  21237.
