Kenneth Michael Knox, age 55, of Taneytown, Maryland died on Thursday morning, January 1, 2009 after a courageous battle with Myotonic Dystrophy.
Born March 21, 1953 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Florence E. (Sanders) Knox of Littlestown, PA, and the late George F. Knox, who died in 1975. He was the husband of 34 years to Rosemarie (Staub) Knox.
Ken attended St. Joseph grade school and graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in 1972. He worked on the family farm, and established his own farm in 1975, where he raised beef cattle, was a grain farmer, and did custom work on area farms. He retired in 1999, and worked for Home Run Trucking for 5 months. He also worked at Lippy Brothers in Hampstead as a truck driver from 1999 until 2004. Ken loved farming, and in 1986 was honored as the Outstanding Young Farmer Award. He was a member of Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg, MD, where he served as trustee for several years, and helped to clear the Promised Land at the church.
Surviving in addition to his mother and wife, are children, Jeremiah Knox of York, PA, Alicia Knox of Emmitsburg, MD, Jordan Knox and fiancée Holly Wilson of Bonneville, PA; siblings, Mary Frances Baron and husband Raymond of Littlestown, PA, George Knox and wife Eileen of Longwood, Florida, Ann Hansen and husband Jesse of Littlestown, PA, Jane Hubbard of Emmitsburg, MD, Florence M. Knox and fiancée Jim Small of Littlestown, PA, Donald Knox and wife Dawn of Taneytown, MD, Joan Taylor of North Beach, MD, Joyce Knox of Littlestown, PA, Barb Keilholtz and husband Robert of Taneytown, Janet Knox and husband Dennis Nicholson of Leonardtown, MD, Joseph Knox and wife Jackie of Taneytown, Steve Knox of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Teresa Morrissey and husband Dan of Woodsboro, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by children, Rose Marie, Ellen Marie, Ann Marie, and Rachel Lynn Knox, and by siblings, Jim Knox, and Glenn Knox.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church, 16252 Tom’s Creek Church Road in Emmitsburg with the Rev. Judy Kelly and Rev. William Warehime co-officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Taneytown, MD. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown and again on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
