Kenneth Eugene Forney, Sr., 87, of Taneytown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Genesis, Gettysburg, PA. He was the loving husband of the late Doris (Myers) Forney who he would have been married to for 67 years on Christmas Eve.
Born on April 4, 1930 in Taneytown, MD, he was the son of the late David Thomas and Ida Naomi (Hahn) Forney. He was the last of his immediate family.
Kenneth was a mechanic for Mitchell Transport, Union Bridge, MD for 28 years. After his retirement, he continued his work as a mechanic, doing repairs for many area farmers and truckers. Later in life, Kenneth began wood working, making cedar chests, hobby horses, etc. There were very few things that he could not make or repair. He never met a stranger, and was a friend to all. He loved his wife and family, enjoying all the time he spent with them.
Kenneth is survived by Thomas E. Forney and wife Barbara of Taneytown, MD, Sue H. Long and husband Thomas of Emmitsburg, Sandra G. Cool and husband Wayne of Taneytown, and Kenneth E. Forney, Jr. of Emmitsburg; grandchildren, Lynn Forney, Thomas Forney and wife Kelly, David Forney and wife Jennifer, Chad Shaffer and wife Kim, Shari Stone and husband David, Sr., Crystal Ridinger and husband Jonathan, Matthew Cool and wife Becky, Shawn Cool, Kenneth Forney, III and wife Kelsie, Meagan Forney and companion, Aaron Verstuyft; step-grandchildren, Heather Fitzgerald, Stacey Haulser, and Thomas Long, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Allison Putnam and Nathan Forney, Trenton and Chase Forney, Kacey, Kamryn and Christopher Shaffer, David III and fiancé Addie, Alexander, Andrew, Kyle, and Kaylee Stone, Hannah Seabolt, Cassidy and Scarlett Cool, Kinlei and Adalynn Forney and another little one who is due June 2018.
Also surviving are sisters-in-law Anna (Margy) Myers, Ann Hamburg and husband Sonny, Linda Henning and husband Mike; brother-in-law, Sterling (Butch) Myers; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by sisters Helen Bollinger, Catherine (Kitty) Anders, Betty Stauffer, Martha Louise Forney and Mary Wantz; brothers, Roland, William and Carroll.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown, MD with Father John F. Lesnick as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Friday at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Thomas and David Forney, Chad Shaffer, Matthew Cool, Kenneth Forney, III and grandson-in-law, David Stone, Jr.
