Kathleen (Richardson) Williams

January 6, 1914 — June 6, 2016

Elizabeth Kathleen Williams, 102, of Emmitsburg, MD, died peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Ministries in Emmitsburg.  Born January 6, 1914 in Emmitsburg, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Marie Frances (Butler) Richardson.  She was the wife of the late Martin R. Williams, Sr., who died in 1960.

Kathleen was a cook for many years at St. Joseph High School and St. Joseph Church Rectory.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Sodality.  She was a member of the Honor Society and African American Living Treasures for persons age 90 and above.  Kathleen had a warm and wonderful smile.  She enjoyed gardening, listening to music, working crossword puzzles and word searches, and spending time with her beloved family.  She enjoyed baking, and was best known for her delicious apple pies.  She also enjoyed talking with people, and contributed to many articles written about growing up in Frederick County as an African American.

Surviving are children, Lois Bowman and husband Raymond, and Mary James, all of Washington, D.C., Patrick Williams and wife Darlene of Frederick, MD, Martin Williams, Jr. and wife Sharon of Fairfield, PA, Marie Williams, and Richard Williams and wife Joan, all of Emmitsburg, MD; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by daughter, Joan C. Williams; sister, Marie Kelsic; and 3 brothers, who died during childhood, Joseph, Francis, and Billy Richardson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD, 21727, with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. as celebrant.  Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday at the church.  The Rosary will be shared at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church at the above address, or to Mother Seton School, 100 Creamery Rd., Emmitsburg, MD, 21727.
