R. Karyl (Myers/Cook) Uebel, 90, formerly of Taneytown, MD, passed away gently in her sleep on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Cross Keys Brethren Home in New Oxford, PA with her family by her side. Born on the 4th of July (the “firecracker baby”) in 1927 in Irvington, MD, she was the second daughter of the late John William Myers, Jr. and the late Maude Anne (O’Brennan) Myers. She was the wife of Lawrence Albert Uebel, who preceded her in death in 1998.
Karyl grew up in Halethorpe and graduated from Catonsville High School, class of 1942. She was a homemaker and was very active in the church in her later years.
Surviving are daughters, Bobbie Nevins of Kingsport, TN, Lynn Carmine of New Oxford, PA, Dianne Slutter of Oceanside, CA, Donna Nevins of Taneytown, MD, Nancy Wallman of Alcolu, SC, Joy Clark of Taneytown, MD and Sandy Sawyer of Hanover, PA; sons, Stephen Uebel of Alcolu, SC, Mark Uebel of New Milton, WV, and Michael Uebel; sister, Joan Lester of Halethorpe, MD; a plethora of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Wayne Uebel and a sister, Maude Anne Edmonds.
Karyl generously donated her body the Maryland State Anatomy Board for the advancement of medical science. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, MD 21787 with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Inurnment will be scheduled at a later date at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge, MD. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 23rd at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
Arrangements have been entrusted to MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Karyl’s name may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church at the above address.
