Karl Melvin Wantz, 62, of Hanover, PA passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2024 at York Hospital. He is the son of the late Dorothy and Melvin Wantz from Westminster, MD.
He was born and raised in Westminster, MD and was once a reporter of the Evening Sun Newspaper and enjoyed writing articles and taking pictures. He was also a member of Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren in Westminster, MD. Through his adult younger years, he loved sports and was on a few leagues all including volleyball, softball, bowling, roller skating and used to run a volleyball league. He knew many tricks and turns with roller skating too. He worked many years at the Lowe’s in Maryland serving hot dogs to the community and was well known as “The hot dog man”. He loved Nascar and sprint car racing and was a fan of Lincoln Speedway and Williams Grove and even worked part-time at the tracks at times because he loved it so much. He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, and writing his own music. He played in a few bands with friends for fun and enjoyed bluegrass music and going to bluegrass festivals. Karl loved to spend time at the Bizzy Bee Warehouse in Littlestown, PA. He loved his family and friends. He was also a Hanover Moose Member and a member at The Hanover Home Association.
Karl is survived by his daughter, Katie Ault and her husband Shawn; brother Doug Wantz and his wife Angela; 2 grandchildren Brennon and Brayton Ault; and grand dog named Roxy Ault.
Family will receive friends for a visitation at Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren, 818 Old Taneytown Rd., Westminster, MD. on Tuesday, March 5th 2024 from 9-11am where a Celebration of Life will follow at 11am. The family asks if anyone has a racing t-shirt/sweatshirt, Baltimore Ravens shirt/sweatshirt, Orioles shirt, a bluegrass or music festival, or anything that Karl loved and enjoyed that they’re more than welcome to wear it to honor him on that day.
