June Kay Twigg

April 21, 1926 — December 3, 2015

June Kay Twigg, age 89, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the Carroll Lutheran Village Healthcare Center.  Born April 21, 1926 at Kay's Mill in Finksburg, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Charles Sherwood Kay and Glova Armacost Kay.  She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Carl Cleveland Twigg, Jr., who died on May 5, 2015.

June had a wonderful childhood and enjoyed living life with her parents, sister, and grandparents at Kay's Mill.  She helped at the mill and enjoyed cooking and sewing with her mother.  Over many decades, she loved playing the piano and singing duets with her father.  After graduating from Westminster High School, she worked in Baltimore at Maryland National Bank in the trust department, and studied classical piano at the Peabody Institute.  She was a devoted member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.  She played the organ in church and was a Sunday School teacher for decades.  She was devoted to her family and took pride in raising her sons.  In later years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and antiquing.  She selflessly cared for her husband throughout his life.  She had many friends and was known for her cheerful and bright outlook on life.

She is survived by sons Mark E. Twigg and wife Harriet of Falls Church, VA, and Charles A. Twigg and wife Jeri of Westminster; sister Lois Cook of Westminster; 5 grandchildren, Dennis  Twigg and wife Diana, Julie Mecchi and husband Andrew, Jeffrey Twigg and fiancée Emily Sheehan, Andrew Twigg and wife Marianne, Elaine Waterman and husband Joey; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster with the Rev. Jimmie L. Schwartz and the Rev. Dr. Wm. Louis Piel officiating.  Luncheon and reception with the family will follow the service in the chapel.  Private burial will follow in St. Benjamin’s Krider’s UCC Cemetery in Westminster.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, P.O. Box  755, Finksburg, MD  21048 or to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD  21157.
