Julia Mae (Monard) Hess, age 81, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA.
Born May 2, 1926 in Germantown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Nettie Mae (Norwood) Monard. She was predeceased by her husband, Shirley Warren Hess in 1998.
Prior to her marriage, she was a governmental service employee in Washington, D.C., later becoming one of the first female postmistress working for the U.S. Postal Service in Clarksburg, Md. She retired from Moores business forms in Thurmont. She attended Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Barbara “Bobbi” and Allen Dove of Emmitsburg, daughter, Sandra Miller of Thurmont; grandchildren, Brandi Dove of Fairfield, Pa, Shayne Dove, and Aaron Dove, both of Thurmont, Dane Miller of Harrisburg, Pa, Ben Miller of Westminster, and Irvin Miller of Thurmont; great-grandchildren, Dalton Brooks, and Tanya Brooks, both of Fairfield, Pa, Taylor Dove of Gettysburg, Julia Miller of Harrisburg, and Maddy Joyner of Thurmont. Also surviving are a sister, Nancy Jo Spring of Dickerson, Md., a brother, John Michael Monard of Clarksburg, and her faithful companion dog named Jack Flash Dove.
She was pre-deceased by grandson, Nicholas Miller, a granddaughter, Kim Dove, a son-in-law, William Miller, and by siblings, James, Thomas, and Ralph Monard, and Marie Collins.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg with the Rev. Donnie Jane Cardwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick, Md. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
