Josephine McGucken, 95, of Glen Arm, MD and formerly of Emmitsburg, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Glen Meadows Retirement Community in Glen Arm. Born at home on February 24, 1924 in Morgantown, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Adam and Louisa (Davis) Warner. She was the wife of the late Patrick Francis McGucken, who passed in 1977.
Josephine worked as a Switchboard Operator during the 1940s and, in later years, she was a Reservation Manager for Sonesta Hotels. She was a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg. She enjoyed gardening and playing Bridge, and was a fan of the Washington Redskins. Her true passion, however, was her family.
Surviving are her children, John Thomas McGucken and wife Gail of Cockeysville, MD, and their 4 daughters, Cindy (McGucken) Myers and husband Roger, Anna Mae (McGucken) Glenn and husband Nathan, and Melissa and Abigail McGucken; Cecilia Louise (McGucken) Sullivan and husband Thomas of Hamilton Square, NJ, and their children, Thomas Sullivan and wife Kris and their daughter Melissa, and Susan (Sullivan) Tonry and her children, Brigid, Sean and Colin; Patricia Joan (McGucken) Habersberger and husband Colonel Albert of Port St. Lucie, FL, their son Eric and wife Amy and their son Hunter; Theresa Ann (McGucken) Barchok and husband Charles of Burke, VA, their children, Joanne Espinoza and husband Gary (deceased) and their children, Kyle and Brandon, Mary Karen Papa and husband Jason and their children, C.J. and Charlie, Jennifer Gammache and husband Aaron and their children Annabelle and Bradley, and Michael Barchok and wife Jessica and their children, Madeline, Lily and Morgan; Mary Ellen (McGucken) Garber and husband Bruce of Onancock, VA, and their children, Stuart Garber and wife Kaitlyn and Nicholas Garber; William Joseph McGucken and wife Marianne of Bowie, MD, and their children, Therese and Christopher McGucken; and Brigid Bernice McGucken de Fernandez and husband Joaquin of Leon, Spain and their children, Patrick Fernandez and wife Kerry and their children, Elsa and Lorena, and Carolina Fernandez McGucken and husband David Tome Revilla and their children, Alex and Julia. Josephine was predeceased by a son, Joseph Thomas McGucken , and her two sisters, Mary Louise McCullough and Gladys Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Martin McGeough, C.M. as celebrant. Burial will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends 9-10:30 a.m.on Monday morning at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.
