Joseph "Joe" A. Ziegler

Joseph “Joe” Albert Ziegler, age 75, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Friday, October 16, 2009 at his home.
Born February 22, 1934 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Albert S. and Anna (Doggett) Ziegler. He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Barbara Anne Harvey-Ziegler.
Joe attended St. Ambrose School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving three tours of duty in the Mediterranean during the Korean War, aboard the U.S.S. Leary, Destroyer DDR 879. He retired after 38 years as a construction inspector with Verizon. He attended the Taneytown United Presbyterian Church and was a member of Hesson Snyder American Legion, Post 120 in Taneytown, the Taneytown Senior Center, and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Reisterstown Council. Joe enjoyed attending the morning Coffee Group at the Taneytown McDonalds, and his annual Leary reunions. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed yard work, gardening, and vacations in Ocean City, MD.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are sons, Joseph L. Ziegler of Catonsville, MD, and John A. Ziegler of Woodlawn, MD; a grandson, Nicholas P. Ziegler of Pasadena, MD; siblings, Frances Freedy, Barbara Ziegler, Jacqueline Hough, Wayne Ziegler all of Baltimore, and Diane Swanner of McSherrystown, PA. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 42 years, Cindy G. Ziegler, and by siblings, Jerome (Jerry) Ziegler, Carol Ziegler, and Marcia Bryan.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 East Baltimore St., Taneytown with the Rev. Lloyd Fuss officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home, where a Memorial Service will be conducted by the American Legion around 7 PM.
