Joseph Walter Cykosky

Joseph Walter Cykosky, 90, of Taneytown died Friday, August 29, 2008 at York Hospital, York, Pennsylvania.
Born March 10, 1918 in Greentown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John A. and Ursula H. Gutowski Cykosky. He was the husband of the late Stella Florence Pileci Cykosky to whom he was married for 47 years.
He served in the United States Air Force flying B-26 Marauders during World War II. Following the war he served several years in the Air Force Reserves, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He worked 37 years as a PBX repairman with C&P Telephone Co., retiring in 1982.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown, American Legion Hesson Snyder Post 120, the Disabled American Veterans Association, the B-26 Marauder Historical Society, the Blind Veterans Association, the Diabetes Research Wellness Foundation, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, and Telecom Pioneers. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, dancing, playing cards, traveling and working on antique cars.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Susan & Joseph Lisi of Ellicott City; daughter Joanne Hooper of Taneytown; daughter & son-in-law Janice & William Lewis of Westminster; sisters Adeline Lennon & Genevieve Cykosky of Greentown, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Patricia Cykosky; sons Michael and Robert Cykosky; sisters Constance Marhelfka, Pearl Cykosky & Antoinette Jadczka; and brothers John, Anthony & Edward Cykosky.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 2 at St, Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, September 1 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown. A Christian wake will be observed at 8:30 p.m.
