Johnmurray Francis Hopkinson, Jr.

August 28, 1932 — December 12, 2015

Johnmurray F. Hopkinson, Jr., age 83, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Charlotte Hall VA Nursing Center in Charlotte Hall, MD.

Born August 28, 1932 in Gamber, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Melvin Hopkinson and Anna Birdola Viola (Beegle) Hopkinson.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1953-1955.  John worked at Fort Detrick, Maryland, and later for the Naval Ordnance Station at Indian Head, Maryland as a cartographer retiring on January 2, 1988.  He also spent 20 years as a school bus driver with the Rill’s Bus Service in Westminster.  John was a life member of the Perseverance Lodge, No. 208 A.F. &A.M. Indian Head, MD, member of the 32 nd degree Scottish Rite Ancient & Accepted, Alexandria, VA, Bethel No. 24 Job’s Daughters (PABG) Indian Head, MD, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 2226, Littlestown, PA.  He enjoyed playing BINGO, attending local church and fire hall dinners and socials, and traveling on Rill’s Bus Tours with his sister and family.

Surviving are sisters, Marymae Lindsey of Bryson City, NC and Annarebekah G. Rill and husband Paul of Westminster, MD.  Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Melvin W. Hopkinson in 2009.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St, Westminster, MD, with Rev. Dr. Ray Shutt of Church of the Open Door officiating.  Burial will follow with military honors in the Westminster Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
