John Edward Watkins, 75, of Waynesboro, PA, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Waynesboro Hospital in Waynesboro, PA. Born October 26, 1940 in Montgomery County, MD, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Pauline King Watkins. He was the husband of Sandra Mae Keilholtz Watkins, to whom he was married for 53 years.
John was a self-employed livestock dealer and was a beloved fixture at Greencastle, Westminster, Hagerstown, and other local auctions for over 50 years. He attended Five Forks Brethren Church in Waynesboro, PA, and formerly attended Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church near Emmitsburg. John enjoyed goose hunting with his cousins and being involved in church activities. His greatest joy though, was spending time with his family, friends, and loved ones.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, Steve Watkins and wife Jeanne of Littlestown, PA, Doug Watkins and wife Julie of Gettysburg, PA, and Wayne Watkins and wife Layla of Thurmont; daughter, Crystal Mumma and husband Matt of Waynesboro, PA; sisters, Rachel Wivell and husband Bill of Emmitsburg, and Debbie Clarke and husband Bill of Littlestown, PA; step-sister, Joan Carroll of Poolesville; grandchildren, Sam, Molly, Wyatt, Haley, John Douglas, Gracie Mae, Lucy, Kara, and Gavin; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Richard “Ricky” Watkins, and step-mother, Betty Watkins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church, 10926 Simmons Rd., Emmitsburg, MD with Pastors Heath Wilson and Lloyd Fuss officiating. Interment will follow at Keysville Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.
