John Alfred Shryock, age 93, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Friday, December 19, 2008 at his home.
Born April 25, 1915 in Keysville, MD, he was the son of the late Harvey and Bertha (Stonesifer) Shryock. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Mary Margaret (Burdner) Shryock in 2003.
Mr. Shryock was a veteran of the U.S. Army AirCorps serving during W.W.II. He worked for many years as a machinist at the Littlestown Foundry. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Taneytown and a member of the Holy Name Society of the church. He was also a member of the American Legion Hesson Snider Post 120, in Taneytown.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne “Bonnie” and Donald Staub and Patricia “Patty” Shryock-Smith and Michael Smith, all of Taneytown; a niece, Joann Sell of Taneytown, and two nephews, James Sell of Taneytown, and Richard Sell of Baltimore.
He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Sell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 23rd at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 44 Frederick Street, Taneytown with his pastor, the Rev. Msgr. Martin E. Feild as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Keysville Union Cemetery, Keymar, MD. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St. Taneytown, where Rosary Prayers will be offered at 8:45 PM.
