John K. Powell, Sr., age 87, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, died on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the Hanover Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hanover.
Born May 14, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Bertram and Clementine (Preiss) Powell. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Shirley Marie Powell in 2004.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. 8th Army rescue squadron serving during W.W. II from 1943-1946 in England. He was an expert auto body repairman for most of his working life, retiring in 1995 from Tate Chrysler dealership. He was a member of the Woodlawn VFW and enjoyed woodworking, computer games, and electronics.
Surviving are a son, John Powell, Jr. and wife of Joanne of Littlestown, PA.
Per his wishes there will be no visitation or services. Entombment will be private in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills, MD.
Arrangements are by the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown, Maryland.
