John Minor Stewart

Taneytown

John Minor Stewart, age 85, of Taneytown died peacefully Monday, March 28, 2022 at BridgingLife Westminster. Born July 6, 1936, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late John Folk and Rose Bell (Hyson) Stewart.

John worked for Lehigh Portland Cement Company, retiring after 50 years of service. He filled his spare time with company of the family he loved, telling jokes, fishing, archery, and hunting on the family farm with his son, nephews, and brother. He called everyone, “Doc.” He was a Maryland State Archery Champion, and he channeled his love of archery, into founding, and was past president of, Pipe Creek Bow Hunters Club, and was a life member of the Mayberry Archery Club, and a Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Association member.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mabel A. Stewart; his children, Patricia “Patty” (Shirley) Stewart of Vacaville, CA, Debra “Deb” (Rick) Myers of Westminster, John M. (Sue) Stewart Jr., of Union Bridge, and Sharon Schildt of Myrtle Beach, SC; siblings, Frank (Shirley) Stewart of Pasadena, and Carol Dement of DeFuniak Springs FL; grandchildren, John Stewart III, Misti Trescone, Chad Schildt, and Cameron Schildt; step-grandchildren, Megan O’Melia, and Chelsea Frye; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was very close with brother-in-law, Jim Lawerance, and sister-in-law, Jane Lawerance. John was predeceased by brother Bob Stewart, and sister-in-Law Marie Stewart.

In accordance with John’s wishes, family and friends are invited to a graveside service held, Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., at Grace United Church of Christ Cemetery in Taneytown. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to BridgingLife, formery Carroll Hospice Dove House, 200 Memorial Ave., Westminster, MD 21157, www.gratitude.lifebridgehealth.org, or Mayberry Archers, 2555 Mayberry Rd., Westminster, MD 21158.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown.
