John D. Meyer

John Daniel Meyer, age 84, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at his winter residence in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Born July 14, 1924 in Lansdowne, Maryland, he was the son of the late Jacob M. and Alwine (Hoehne) Meyer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clara Marie (Hatton) Meyer.
John was a member and 1st Elder for many years of the Westminster Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U.S. Army in Saipan. Upon his return from the War, he returned to work as a dairy farmer for nearly 14 years on the family farm near Silver Run, MD. He was a real estate broker, and owned and operated John D. Meyer Real Estate with offices in Westminster, MD, and Littlestown, PA. He served as Carroll County Commissioner from 1970-74, was on the Board of Granite House, and a former President of the Carroll County Board of Realtors. John enjoyed spending time in Florida, camping, golfing, and flying private aircraft.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are children; Daniel Meyer and wife Fiona of Westminster, Susan Wohlers and husband Daniel of Punta Gorda, Florida; siblings, Ruth Waxter of Virginia, Esther Brockman of California, David Meyer of California, Marie Krall of Tennessee, and Benjamin Meyer of Westminster. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings, Jacob and Paul Meyer, and Martha Pielate.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, with Pastor F. Stephen Wall officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
