John "Kermie" Mcglaughlin, Sr.

February 17, 1970 — October 22, 2016

John Kermit “Kermie” McGlaughlin, 46, of Emmitsburg, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA.  Born February 17, 1970 in Gettysburg, he was the second son of Dennis and Patty (Glass) McGlaughlin, Sr. of Emmitsburg.

Kermie was a graduate of Catoctin High School, class of 1988.  He was a welder, farmer, mechanic, and truck driver for several area businesses.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed being outdoors, and was a member of Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church near Emmitsburg.  Kermie will be forever remembered by his many friends for his infectious smile and warm personality.

Surviving in addition to his parents are children, Tabitha Dick of PA, Andrew McGlaughlin of GA, and Ashley McGlaughlin of Thurmont; brother, Dennis McGlaughlin, Jr. of Emmitsburg; granddaughters, Savannah, Ayva, and Olivia Dick; nephew, Charles McGlaughlin of Emmitsburg; and extended family, Jasmine Buterbaugh of VA, and Robert and Kris Lowery of Thurmont; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was predeceased by son, John Kermit McGlaughlin, Jr; maternal grandparents, Kermit and Della Glass; and paternal grandparents, John and Ethel McGlaughlin.

A memorial service to celebrate Kermie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church, 16252 Tom’s Creek Church Rd., Emmitsburg, MD, 21727, with the Reverends Heath Wilson and Elza Hurst officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.  Inurnment will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church at the above address.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
