John E. “Deacon” Martin, age 74, of Taneytown, Maryland, died following an extended illness on Thursday morning, March 19, 2009 at the home of his sister.
Born January 3, 1935 in Baltimore County, Maryland, he was the son of the late James C. and Elsie Waring (Dyke) Martin.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and operated heavy construction equipment most of his working life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved model building.
Surviving are his brothers, Arthur Martin of Virginia, William Martin of MD, Leo Martin of Ohio, and James Martin of MD; sisters, Roane Fick, Rose Golden, and Margarette Cole all of MD. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by siblings, Marie Snyder, Jerry Martin, Kathryn Morris, and Robert Martin.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown, Maryland.
