John Macchio

October 17, 1944 — July 14, 2014

John Michael Macchio, 69, of the Carroll Vista community in Taneytown, Maryland died peacefully Monday, July 14, 2014 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.  Born October 17, 1944 in Cheverly, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Delores Carey Macchio Sr.  He was the husband of Mary Ash Macchio, to whom he was married for nearly 50 years.

John was a lithographer and Vice President of Manufacturing at Corporate Press in Landover where he was employed for 35 years.  He was affiliated with The Church of the Ascension Episcopal congregation in Westminster.  He enjoyed boating, playing tennis and golf, and spending time with his family and many friends at Carroll Vista.  He was an avid fan of the Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, and Washington Redskins.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Richard Macchio and wife Lori of Bowie, and Ronald Macchio and wife Cynthia of Silver Spring; brothers, Joseph Macchio Jr. of Vass, NC, Frederick Macchio and wife Maureen of Richardson, TX, and Timothy Macchio of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Lauren Francis and husband Dominic of El Paso, TX, Morgan and Eric Macchio of Bowie, and Jarod Macchio of Silver Spring; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sister, Toni See.  Members of John’s family wish to express their gratitude for the warm compassion and competent care that they and John received from the Dove House staff.

Family and friends will gather at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD at 10 a.m. Friday, July 18.  A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steve Swift officiating.  Inurnment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Washington, D.C. will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s honor may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas PL, Memphis, TN, 38105, or to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 3551 N. Broad St, Philadelphia, PA, 19140.
