John Raymond Hosfeld, age 74, of Westminster, Maryland, died on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Carroll Hospital Center.
Born June 30, 1937 in Taneytown, Maryland he was the son of the late Charles H. Hosfeld and Doris (Sell) Staub. He was pre-deceased by his step-mother, Mary Yingling Hosfeld.
John was a graduate of Westminster High School Class of 1956 and the New York School of Floral Design. He owned and operated The Flower Box in Westminster as a florist and designer from August 5, 1965 until his retirement on November 1, 2009. He took over the passion for floral design and love of flowers from his beloved late Aunt Grace M. Benson who started the shop on Main Street in Westminster in 1951. He was a life member of St. Benjamin’s (Krider’s) Lutheran Church in Westminster and was instrumental in making the church become one of the 1st handicap accessible in the area. He enjoyed travel and eating out with friends and family.
Surviving are life-long friend and caregiver, Billy J. Frey of Westminster; brother, Richard C. Hosfeld and wife Helen of Westminster; nephew, Lewis E. Flater of Hanover, PA; niece, Sherri Hosfeld Joseph of Westminster; great-nephews and niece, Xavier, Sebastian, and Scarlett Joseph; cousin, Margaret “Peg” Benson Jamieson of Tacoma, Wash.
He was pre-deceased by a sister, Kay G. Hosfeld-Flater.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster with his pastor the Rev. David S. Schafer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Benjamin’s (Kriders) Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-5 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
