John K. Hawk, Sr., 71, of Fairfield, PA died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 20, 2017. Born March 9, 1945 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Eyler) Hawk. He was the husband of Wahnita (Ecker) Hawk, to whom he was married for 21 years.
John was a truck driver for Carroll County Roads for many years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taneytown, where he served on the Church Council. He was also an active member of the Taneytown Senior Center. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Maryland Terrapins basketball team. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, and collecting coins with his grandson Jeramy.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, John Kenneth Hawk, Jr. and fiancé Shawna Maggard of Union Bridge; step-sons, James Stewart and wife Kimberly of Frederick, and David Stewart and wife Tobie of Westminster; sister, Doris Jackson and husband Keith of AL; grandsons, Jeramy and Joseph Hawk; 5 step-grandchildren; 8 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Greenholtz.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, 21787, with the Rev. Cristopher Frigm officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD.
