John William Harvey

John William Harvey, age 84, of Taneytown, died Monday, January 30, 2012 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA. Born June 5, 1927 in Frederick County, MD, he was the son of the late Raymond Kirks and Laura Chick Harvey. He was the husband of Anne (Poole) Harvey, his wife of 64 years.

He was a farmer in Carroll County for a number of years. He was also owner/operator of John Harvey Hauling, and Harvey’s General Store. He was a member of the Minutemen during his youth and drove a milk truck for Charles Davis of Beallsville, MD. John was well-known for the lawn furniture he made. He was a member of Taneytown United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Barbara Harvey-Ziegler of Taneytown, and Ruth Martin and husband, Philip, of Littlestown, PA; grandchildren, Gwen Bounds and husband, Wilson, of Taneytown, & Sam Martin and wife, Stephanie, of Mt. Airy; great-grandchildren, Cooper & Casey Bounds, and Ashley Martin; sister, Thelma Grubb and husband, Lloyd of Frederick; brother, Ray Harvey of New Carrollton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Evelyn Cockerill.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 2 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 East Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD, with the Rev, Lloyd Fuss officiating. Interment will follow at Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, MD. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
