John J. Guntner, Sr., age 69, of Taneytown, Maryland died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born September 18, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Joseph and Eva (Kropkowski) Guntner. He was the husband of Rosemary E. (Becker) Guntner, his wife of 41 years.
John was a graduate of Loyola College in Baltimore in 1974, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a CPA and business manager for the State of Maryland for over thirty years, retiring in 2002 from Maryland Public Television. He was an active member of the Taneytown Lions Club, and was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Taneytown.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, John “Jay” Guntner, Jr. of Baltimore; step-mother, Mary Magdelena Guntner of Dundalk; sisters, Barbara Butler of Essex, Diana Sobotka and husband Mel of Ellicott City; sister-in-law, Lucille A. Warren of Middle River; brother-in-law, Henry Becker, III of Berwyn Heights; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, April 23rd at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, with Monsignor Martin E. Feild as celebrant. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.
